Steer North is proud to announce Australian Catholic University (ACU) as the official Academic Partner of the 2016 Steer North Ride. As the official Academic Partner, ACU will be assisting Steer North in developing health promotion programs that inspire and empower people and communities across the country to live healthy and active lives.
ACU focuses on empowering its students to bring about change in their communities. The University is recognised for its supportive and nurturing learning environment and close links with industry, giving students the chance to gain hands-on experience in the workplace. ACU staff are leaders in their fields and passionate about giving students the best possible experience. The University has seven campuses around Australia: in Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney (North Sydney and Strathfield).
Rita Nehme, co-founder and executive director of Steer North was pleased to announce the partnership between Steer North and ACU.
“By partnering with ACU, Steer North will benefit from ACU’s wealth of experience in health promotion to spread our mission of inspiring and empowering people to live healthy and active lives. This partnership will allow Steer North to work along academics and students at ACU’s Faculty of Health Sciences to develop evidence based programs that engage communities in meaningful ways in order to create sustainable impact.”
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Michelle Campbell said the partnership was an excellent opportunity for ACU and Steer North to work together in promoting physical activity across Australia.
“ACU has a lot to offer as an outdoor education provider. This collaboration will enhance our shared goals in promoting exercise and health in the wider community,” Professor Campbell said.
ACU will also assist the Steer North riders as they pass through Sydney on their way from Melbourne to Cairns as part of the 2016 Steer North Ride. ACU will provide them with food and accommodation at Mary MacKillop Place, just next door to ACU’s North Sydney campus.
ACU joins other high-profile Steer North partnerships, including Cycling Victoria, Specialized Bikes, Etixx Sports Nutrition, Cycling-Inform Cycle Coaching, Tineli Performance Bikewear, the Co-op, the Sports Injury Clinic and Sunsense Sunscreen.
